The Medical Board of California honors Craig Jones, M.D. with their prestigious 2006 Physician Award for his many years of service to underserved patients in Los Angeles County. The Physician Recognition Committee was impressed with Dr. Jones’ work with the Breathmobile® program, which brings free asthma treatment and medicine to disadvantaged children at over 120 schools. The award acknowledges the work of individual physicians or group physicians who strive to improve access in the healthcare delivery system in California.

Dr. Jones is president of the Asthma & Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA), California Chapter. AAFA in collaboration with LAC+USC Medical Center established the Breathmobile® program in 1995. Dr. Jones is the medical director of the program. There are five Breathmobiles® in Southern California. The concept of the Breathmobile® has been replicated across the nation. Data management from the Breathmobiles® sites is coordinated and integrated at the AAFA Pediatric Asthma Disease Management Program, located at the Medical Center.

His newest program, the Kiosk Health Risk Assessment Survey (HRA), is being used by parents and patients in medical settings. The survey predicts whether a child or adult is likely to have active asthma, if the asthma is controlled or uncontrolled, and the current severity of asthma. Dr. Jones is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Keck School of Medicine of USC and the Chief of the Division of Allergy and Immunology.

The California Society of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology Society (CSAAI) nominated Dr. Jones for the 2006 award. Dr. Jones was the Immediate past president of the Society and he was previously president of the Los Angeles Society of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology.

The Medical Licensing Board will bestow this award to Dr. Jones on Friday, May 12 at the Embassy Suites Hotel from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. A luncheon celebration will follow. For more information please call AAFA at (800) 624-0044.
